Busy day

Yesterday was a crazy busy day. It started out with a quick breakfast with Wyatt where I spilled salsa down the front of my shirt.
Next we headed down to City Hall for a robot demo to get politicians excited for the up coming San Diego Regional. I dropped the kids off on the corner with the totes and went to the parking garage where I locked my purse and keys in the trunk. Luckily I had not locked my car door so I was able to quickly get retrieve my keys.
When I got to City Hall I found out that my camera lens is broken, it will not zoom. I am so bummed but hoping I can take it in to get repaired. The amazing thing about City Hall was all the news media that came out to see our demo.
One more week and all the award submissions need to be submitted and it is getting a little crazed.

I have been crazy busy lately, I have been editing award submissions, magazine write ups, and a giant business plan. I went to eat sushi one day and one beautiful day I went to the beach and edited.
I also had to take a picture o the sign because it. Makes me laugh every time I drive past it.

One of those days

Have you ever had one of those days? You know the ones where you are in a texting conversation and you type something, send it and as soon as it is gone you realize OH NO! That sentence wis going to be taken sooo wrong. Well then the texting went down hill fast and the best thing I could do was to stop texting. Yup that was so not good.

After the issue with the text I went to the restroom and I saw this on the floor, yes it was set up just like this and it made me smile and think how long it has been since I had a donut.

Thought for the day: be careful when texting.

How did you spend your Saturday? Well this morning started out raining and cold as Wyatt and I left to drive to San Diego.
Then I spent 5 hours in different meeting with members of the robotics team.
The meetings were followed by hours of editing award submissions.
Finally I got to leave and drive home after a 13 hour day of volunteering.

Each night I spend many hours with the robotics team usually editing one of many award submissions, magazine write ups or business plan. I do take breaks and crochet or watch the octopus in the classroom next to the engineering lab or I crochet. I have already made 2 beanies, an afghan for an American girl doll bed and 3 scarves.
I thought you would like to see the octopus he is so cool.

It's that time is year again where many, many long hours are spend in this room.
It's is the season called FIRST robotics competition season. Today was almost 80 degrees and I did get to enjoy the first half of it outside.
Now I sit here penning this from the back of the lab feeding hungry teenagers pasta, garlic bread, salad and lemon bars with a macadamia nut crust. The Internet is down at the school right now so I am going to have to pull out my old lady crochet bag and make something until the late night dodge ball game begins.

Flower hunt

Today I went on a flower hunt to see how many blooming flowers I could find. They were such a bright site in the winter I had to share some of my finds with you.
I love all the colors of the flowers that bloom all year round, I feel so blessed to live in a place where we have such beautiful flowers all year long.

I was waiting for this to arrive to share my word of the year. Yup NO EXCUSES. I liked these words because so many of us make so many excuses everyday. I need to get back to getting healthy and many other things that I use an excuse for, mostly "I am to busy" this year I need to own my self and my actions. I will have no excuses for not doing things I enjoy, I can add those into this crazy, busy life that people don't get WHY I am so busy. Want to find out try being me for 24 hours you would see why I am busy and have used excuses to clog my life. Not this year! I love my crazy, busy, frantic run here do this meet with him then with her life. My boys are amazing, great kids who have goals and ambitions for their future and I know I have hung with them, been there and I will continue to give my all while I continue to be there for them first. I will work me time in around them, I will say no because I don't want to do something, and all the other thing we do every day to make ourselves feel better by giving that excuse.

Tomorrow is a big day in the world of FIRST robotics, the day these high school kids have been waiting for since last May.. It is a day with more anticipation than seeing what's under the Christmas tree. . . Kick off!!!!
This is the day they find out what the game is going to be from 2012. The teams from San Diego will be crowding into a high school auditorium to listen to the likes of Stephen Colbert, George W Bush, Bill Clinton and of course Dean Kamen talk about their future in STEM fields.
YUP this is a big nerd fest and they are proud of it.

365 day photo challenge

I started a new photo challenge that is to take a picture every day of the same person. My wonderful son agreed to be my model, it make me especially happy because he does not lime to have his picture taken. I will not pot the pictures every day but at the end of the year I will make them into a video.
Last night was a great time with the neighbors, talking and sipping champagne by a fire pit. We ate yummy food and made s'mores too.

We woke up this morning, looked over the deck and this is what we saw! This is right down in front of our house . . . the face of the bluff slid out from under our deck. We are all ok and our house sits back on the deck, but it sure make the little things not so big when you see this.

As we sit around a fire pit tonight talking about this year the majority of us agree this was not a great year, we all hold out hope that 2012 will be a much better year.

I am going to work on some goals for this year, I am hoping that whatever job I am suppose to be doing will come to me (as I know it will), I am excited to see where 2012 takes me. How about you?

As we get ready to say good bye to 2011 it is a good time to remember all the blessing we have in our lives. I feel so blessed that this year my son still enjoys me being around and helping out his FIRST robotics team. In love that we can hang out, he is such a great teenager.
Today I will spend the day cleaning so we can bring in the new year in a clean and purged place. I am all about minimizing today. So I want to have it carry over into 2012.

I found this great blog today and had to share this with you since the new year is upon us.

Start spending time with the right people. – These are the people you enjoy, who love and appreciate you, and who encourage you to improve in healthy and exciting ways. Start giving your ideas and dreams a chance. – In life, it’s rarely about getting a chance; it’s about taking a chance. These short breaks will help you regain your sanity and reflect on your recent actions so you can be sure they’re in line with your goals.
Start noticing the beauty of small moments. – Instead of waiting for the big things to happen – marriage, kids, big promotion, winning the lottery – find happiness in the small things that happen every day. Little things like having a quiet cup of coffee in the early morning, or the delicious taste and smell of a homemade meal, or the pleasure of sharing something you enjoy with someone else, or holding hands with your partner. Noticing these small pleasures on a daily basis makes a big difference in the quality of your life.
Start accepting things when they are less than perfect. – Remember, ‘perfect’ is the enemy of ‘good.’ One of the biggest challenges for people who want to improve themselves and improve the world is learning to accept things as they are. Sometimes it’s better to accept and appreciate the world as it is, and people as they are, rather than to trying to make everything and everyone conform to an impossible ideal. No, you shouldn’t accept a life of mediocrity, but learn to love and value things when they are less than perfect.
Start working toward your goals every single day. – Remember, the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Whatever it is you dream about, start taking small, logical steps every day to make it happen. Get out there and DO something! The harder you work the luckier you will become. While many of us decide at some point during the course of our lives that we want to answer our calling, only an astute few of us actually work on it. By ‘working on it,’ I mean consistently devoting oneself to the end result. Read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Start being more open about how you feel. – If you’re hurting, give yourself the necessary space and time to hurt, but be open about it. Talk to those closest to you. Tell them the truth about how you feel. Let them listen. The simple act of getting things off your chest and into the open is your first step towards feeling good again.
Start taking full accountability for your own life. – Own your choices and mistakes, and be willing to take the necessary steps to improve upon them. Either you take accountability for your life or someone else will. And when they do, you’ll become a slave to their ideas and dreams instead of a pioneer of your own. You are the only one who can directly control the outcome of your life. And no, it won’t always be easy. Every person has a stack of obstacles in front of them. But you must take accountability for your situation and overcome these obstacles. Choosing not to is choosing a lifetime of mere existence.
Start actively nurturing your most important relationships. – Bring real, honest joy into your life and the lives of those you love by simply telling them how much they mean to you on a regular basis. You can’t be everything to everyone, but you can be everything to a few people. Decide who these people are in your life and treat them like royalty. Remember, you don’t need a certain number of friends, just a number of friends you can be certain of.
Start concentrating on the things you can control. – You can’t change everything, but you can always change something. Wasting your time, talent and emotional energy on things that are beyond your control is a recipe for frustration, misery and stagnation. Invest your energy in the things you can control, and act on them now.
Start focusing on the possibility of positive outcomes. – The mind must believe it CAN do something before it is capable of actually doing it. The way to overcome negative thoughts and destructive emotions is to develop opposing, positive emotions that are stronger and more powerful. Listen to your self-talk and replace negative thoughts with positive ones. Regardless of how a situation seems, focus on what you DO WANT to happen, and then take the next positive step forward. No, you can’t control everything that happens to you, but you can control how you react to things. Start noticing how wealthy you are right now. – Henry David Thoreau once said, “Wealth is the ability to fully experience life.” Even when times are tough, it’s always important to keep things in perspective. You have access to clean drinking water. You have access to medical care. You have access to the Internet. You can read. 7 day left until Christmas

I finally did it. . . last night in the dark, with only the light of that tree I added all my sweet beachy Christmas ornaments to our Christmas tree. I still have not been able to look at the tree during the day light but the other night I came home and it was all lit up with colored light. As many of you know I prefer white light and it was the year for white light but I didn't even mind this year, they looked fairly ok on this Charlie Brown Tree.
I haven't even had time to do any holiday baking or even much shopping, I am hoping to get this in this week. How about you, what is your favorite things to bake for the holiday season?

I know there is no excuse to have been gone for so long but I really have been super busy. I know I am not working this year but I am busier volunteering than I was working.

Christmas is going to be here before we know it and I do not feel ready, I have very little decorations up, I sent someone who shall remain nameless but the initials are JWES out to pick up a tree the other day and he came back with the smallest funkiest tree ever! Wyatt loves it but I am not even motivated to even decorate it or really look at it, I suppose I will get around to doing something to it but for now it in the corner in a tree stand. It is really sad!

Jeff and Sam arrive in the Philippians the other day and are now leaving to go to Thailand Sunday. They are having a good trip so far and I cannot wait to hear all about it.

2011 robot Daisy Maize

I may not be working this year but I am keeping super busy with helping planning of Battle at the Border. This is an off season event The Holy Cows are co-hosting Saturday the 15th. I have been keeping extremely busy helping with this event.

In addition to the competition there is also some fund raising that is happening at the event, each team is suppose to bring in a bag of canned food for the San Diego food band and we will also be using PINK ubber tubes during the competition to help raise money for breast Cancer research.

Last weekend, after weeks of experimenting, the PINK tubes were finally painted. I used acrylic paint mixed with a texture medium and rolled on 2 coats of paint front and back on each tube.

Now I have to purchase items for the concession booth, order pizza, pack up my 4 page list of items I need to bring to the event and cheer on my favorite FRC team The Holy Cows.

My how far we have traveled in 10 years. Destruction, death, war, natural and other man made catastrophes including economic obliteration of a system we once believed would provide us with security. In the midst of the free-fall many of us found ourselves and decided to land in joy as it is free, always available, non-political and the path of least resistance. Remember to remember where we were and how far we've come.

Yesterday Wyatt and I went to Sea Port village and goofed around immune way back I really wanted to go to Mt. Soledad. He was not excited about going to see a giant cross on the hill. Guess what he live it up there the views are amazing and everything looks so tiny except this giant cross that was built to honor all the veterans who lost their lives in all the past wars. Morning greeter

Every morning when I get up this is what I see out my kitchen window. Patiently he sits there not saying a thing until I get out of the bathroom, then the non stop crazed meowing begins until I let him in to eat. Be chows down on his crunchy food until I can get his canned food out for him.
I do look forward to my adorable view each morning.

Clean closet

I got very productive and cleaned and purged my closet. So I got rid of 2 bags for good will and got everything folded and color coded and sleeve length. Yeah, it is so much better!

Lunch Date

Today I had a lunch date with my 1super wonderful 16 year old son. Yup if it involves food I am great to hang with, if I am sitting around crocheting I am just the old lady mother.
I invited Wyatt for sushi because he and I are the only ones in our house who live it. We tried out a new place in Encinitas and it was pretty good. We shared a couple of rolls then Wyatt wanted some tempura shrimp. We had a great visit, now I know never to take a "lemon/yellow snow cone" from him. It's fun to laugh and joke with him.

Summer reading

Things are calming down a little in my life so I picked up a few books on my summer reading list. Reading is a great way to escape from everything for a little bit. My list has 10 other books on it so as soon as I finish these books I will share some other books.

Today is the first full day in Indiana. It's 110, well that's what the car says and the asphalt in the parking lot is beginning to melt in big spots. Might need to go get an ice cold beer at the bar next door to the hotel.

It has been a beautiful week here in Encinitas. The weather is perfect and I have been very productive. I hope the weather is perfect for you.

Dinner out

Tonight I went out to dinner with my dear friend Sally. We were suppose to go to an amazing place in OB but they were having a farmers market and streets were blocked.
We decided to try this sushi place in Old Town called Harneys Sushi and it was amazing. We had roasted garlic edamame, Monkey brains, to start. I had the pink Pussycat drink and it was so yummy, it had champagne, watermelon, and cranberry. Then we are the Rollz Royce (pictured) then The Dank and an Orange Crush. So yummy you can never eat to much sushi.

Back to Children's Hospital

Today Wyatt had a follow up x-ray on his broken collar bone. We had great news the bone has a lot of new growth. He asked what he could do now and he can ride a bike but no skateboard, he can swim but no ocean. He wanted to know if he could throw at IRI. She said he needed to do some exercises so probably not. She had him do little circles bent over, he did them no problem. Circles got bigger and bigger until he was doing complete arm rotations with no problem. Then she made him do spider spider walks up the wall until his arm was way up the wall and his side was touching the wall as well. Again no problem. She said he was healing so well he could try throwing tubes at practice and see how it feels. He cannot lift anything heavier than 15 pounds and still has to be careful not to fall. His spirits were so lifted and he was sooo happy. I love seeing him happy again.

Today was the annual 4th of July parade down my street. It is so much fun. We had a giant BBQ and lots of yummy food.
Tonight the marine layer was a little thick so it was not easy to see the fireworks but the neighbor renters brought their own fireworks and did them on their deck. It was fun, illegal here in California but they looked great.

My birthday

Today is my birthday! What a wonderful day, I was taken to breakfast, then went to the fair with Deidra and then went to El Agave in Old Town then came home and had this beautiful birthday cake. It is my very favorite kind. Moroccan cake . . . Chocolate cake. Chocolate mouse, a pistachio center and chocolate ganache outside covered with crushed up pistachios.
Last night I went out with my friends from the robotics team and had a great time. Tomorrow night I have plans with friends as well. It has/ will be a wonderful birthday weekend.
As I get older I realize who are true friends and what they really mean to us, we never need a lot of associates we only need a few true friends. I love all mine and truly blessed to call you all my friend.

Tonight I was sitting at dinner and looked out over the window and saw a strange flying machine heading North close to the Pacific shore. We went outside and it was an osprey. I've only ever seen them at the air show. It was so cool.

San Diego County Fair

Today our school took a field trip to the fair, we grew plants and went to have them judged. The highlight of the fair was the pig races! They live those cute little guys and even the bigger pigs.

I love the end of the school year all the parties and fun activities to bring the school year to an end. Today we had a pool party at one of my students house. We had a lifeguard and I was still watching like a mother hawk. I am going to miss my class next year.

Messy Day

Today one of my students was the teacher for the day. Our parent group had a silent auction to raise money and each class has a student be the teacher.
My student did all the regular stuff I have them do in the morning BUT in the afternoon we had messy time. They played Pie in the Eye where they had a plate of whip creme and passed it around, when the music stopped the face went into the whip creme. Then they painted themselves with pudding. That was their favorite thing ever. We played silly string and had a sundae bar they had a blast!

What a beautiful day! The sun is shinning and I actually have a free weekend. I going to clean, do laundry and bake. Next weekend I am busy again. Friday is a dinner with some parents from robotics, Saturday is HTH graduation which I am helping with then I will be going to do photos at a graduation party. Sunday I off to the Grove with some girlfriend for a little shopping. Ahhh

I googled it and I found out that the white seed were considered fairies and when you free them they are so happy they will grant your wish. This morning Wyatt and I got up early, went to breakfast at the Potato Shack then headed to the fair for a student robotics exhibition. It is a fun day and a great way to show the community the robots. We did not see the fried kool-aid but we did see the deep fried corn on the cob. It amazes me all the gross, fried food. The worst smell was the bacon grease that was being cooked next to where the exhibit was.

Wyatt has surprised me so much thru this entire broken collar bone thing. He is the kid that has (or so I thought) has zero tolerance for pain. Not once has he complained, not even when he actually broke his bone. He has been so amazing, sweating under the sling, sleeping and just the day to day routine. He must get his strength from my side o the family. Hahahaha

Last night I added another notch in my "Worst Mother in the Universe" belt. I have a giant cut on the bottom of my foot, I took the band aid off and threw it at Wyatt, well he jumped and went back into the wall throwing his left shoulder up against the door jam. I felt so bad, it really hurt him. He needed some Motrin which he hasn't taken in two days. It was an innocent mistake right?
Today I have been trying to find songs for "Kindergarten Graduation" , finish up their photo books (yes, I keep adding to them) I will find a great quoter for a certain child or think of something else I want to say in their letter on the last page. It has sort of taken over my thoughts. They will have these books for the rest of their lives, I want them to remember me for ever, ever.

Oceanside pier

Yesterday I took Wyatt to the end of the pier in Oceanside for a milkshake and a little pick me up. He is getting pretty depressed thinking about what he can't do with his broken collar bone. I am planning things that he would like to do to keep him busy. If I don't it will be a loong summer. If you have any suggestions let me know.

So today is the fifth day of June and still that dreary gray, gloomy weather has not arrived. It has been sunny, beautiful and all spirits are lifted. Mat was beautiful and so far so is June.

Today is June 1st and the sun is shinning here today I am very surprised because we should be have the not so wonderful June Gloom. We didn't have much May Gray either, wow maybe this summer will end up being nice after all.
So my post a few days ago about the SURFING MADONNA was found and posted on her Facebook page. I was so surprised when I saw it linked up there for the world to see, I keep my little blog for my family and friends to read not everyone on FB, oh well.
I hope everyone has a wonderful June and the best summer, you know the kind you has when you were a kid, the ones when you didn't have a care in the world? You would leave your house on the morning on your bike, play all day with your friends an go home to eat when the sun went down? That is the kind of carefree summer I wish for you, I am going to try to have a summer like that and enjoy my son before he is gone off to college and is to busy for his old mom. Surfing Madonna

Someone worked really hard, many, many hours to create this beautiful art work. It is a gift to my beautiful city but the city officials think of it as graffiti since the artist did not have a permit to hang. I think that our city has forgot their manner when given a gift you should say thank you. This is an amazing mosaic with glass, rocks and tiles made up of six panels that were hung in the muddle of the night under the railroad bridge. Every time I drive past her there is always a crowd taking pictures, news reporter running a report on it or people just stopped to admire this gift. I just wanted to share a little Piece of my city that makes me smile.

Prom night

Last night was prom night at HTH. I went down and had dinner with my friend Sally, took a ton of pictures of her daughter and her date, had a margarita and went over the the hotel where the prom was being held. I took more pictures and went inside it was so sweet that when the kids from robotics saw me they came running over and gave me a hug, it made me feel very special. Those kids are so nice. After prom Sally and several others of us went over to the hotel bar and had a mojito YUM! It was a nice evening and was glad I was able to share it.

Night in the ER

Tonight was the robotics team party at the San Diego Yacht Club we were having a great time when Wyatt walks over and says "mom I did something to my shoulder!" I looked at it and thought it was dislocated. David looked at it and could tell it was broken. So we leave the party and go the hospital long story short. We were in the ER for 4 hours and yes he broke his clavicle. Wyatt is in a sling and we need to make a follow up appt with the ortho at Children's hospital. So far taking Motrin feels good and we are hoping that will be all he needs to take.

Fair Trade

Saturday I went to World Fair Trade Day in San Diego. I was able to sample delicious fair trade chocolate, ice cream and the best tasting vodka I had ever had. It was so yummy and smooth. You might be asking yourself what is Fair Trade? Well I was not really sure until I went Saturday it is about helping other countries have better trade conditions, not using child labor, and sustaining their trade. Yes, Fair trade products may be a bit more expensive but that is what helps keep the companies to be able to pay adults to do the work and not have child labor. It was a big eye opening day and I was very glad I went, Thanks Becca! If you would like to try some of this amazing vodka you can get it at whole Foods in La Jolla.
