Night in the ER

Tonight was the robotics team party at the San Diego Yacht Club we were having a great time when Wyatt walks over and says "mom I did something to my shoulder!" I looked at it and thought it was dislocated. David looked at it and could tell it was broken. So we leave the party and go the hospital long story short. We were in the ER for 4 hours and yes he broke his clavicle. Wyatt is in a sling and we need to make a follow up appt with the ortho at Children's hospital. So far taking Motrin feels good and we are hoping that will be all he needs to take.

Fair Trade

Saturday I went to World Fair Trade Day in San Diego. I was able to sample delicious fair trade chocolate, ice cream and the best tasting vodka I had ever had. It was so yummy and smooth. You might be asking yourself what is Fair Trade? Well I was not really sure until I went Saturday it is about helping other countries have better trade conditions, not using child labor, and sustaining their trade. Yes, Fair trade products may be a bit more expensive but that is what helps keep the companies to be able to pay adults to do the work and not have child labor. It was a big eye opening day and I was very glad I went, Thanks Becca! If you would like to try some of this amazing vodka you can get it at whole Foods in La Jolla.

Happy Mothers Day

To all the amazing and wonderful mothers enjoy your day.
The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The women existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.

This weekend

So the last few weeks have been super duper busy for me trying to help get everything in order for the robotics team to go to the world championships in St. Louis. It was been a lot of crazy busy days and nights. Finally, last Tuesday night everything was ready. . . then I got the e-mail the one as a parent you would dread getting. It was from Wyatt's Chemistry teacher, he had a project due Friday and he did not turn it in nor was it close to being turned in. She was explaining that she could not keep Wyatt from attending Championships but had to let me know that he would not be allowed any extra time to make up this project since they had two months to work on it.
WOW did my blood boil, I walked very calmly over to my 16 year old son and explained to him that he would not be going to the championships in the morning with us, that he would not be on the field competing with the driver and operator of the robot. He was shocked and very upset his job was a very big one on the team and I am sure he thought I would let him go. During the 45 min. car rid home he tried to blame everyone else, including myself. . I very calmly explained to him that I was not put on this earth to be his friend but to raise him up to be a productive, good member of society. It was not easy to do this but it had to be done.
Leaving my house at 4:00am Wednesday was so hard, I felt guilty and I am sure that he thought I would not go either, I had committed and had responsibilities to fulfill. I did get to see Black Eyed Peas and Willow Smith open for them, which was a great performance. I also got to go up inside the arch which was so amazing!
The team lost in the semi-final but won their first ever Championship award. . .Motorola Quality Award, an award for the engineering of their robot.
Looking back on the trip now it was kind of a blur I fed the team, I did whatever I had to do but it was strange and different. I am hoping that it mad an impact on my son only time will tell.
(I am sure you noticed I used the word CALMLY and I am sure it was only in my imagination, I am sure I was not so calm)

What makes you happy?

Try to make at least one person happy everyday and in forty years you will have made 14,600

people happy at least for a short time.

I love these Chinese Lantern flowers I think they are so unique and beautiful and they make me happy to look at. Another crazy weekend filled with robotics and a school golf clinic fundraiser. Right now as I am typing this I am making homemade pasta sauce to take down to feed The Holy Cows, they have practice until late tonight and need to be feed. Hungry cows = grumpy cows!

Fabulous Friday

Today was a beautiful day, the sun was shinning, it was warm and I got to put the A/C on while I drove to pick up Wyatt tonight. Today while at school we had a very fancy ice cream truck come to school for one of my students birthdays and then me and my kindergarten class went down to a dance/disco party in the middle school, this was a dance party with a full DJ! It was pretty sweet. I had so much fun a couple of days ago photographing this sweet thing. Do you remember how much fun it is to play with helium balloons? We had so much fun snapping pictures and playing around.

Great Support

You know how wonderful it is to have great besties? You know them the ones who will show up at your house when they haven't heard from you in a week and kidnap you and take you out just to visit. Yup I have those kind of true friends. Well on my recent trip to San Jose I had all kinds of drama with parents and it really bothers me, I do not like drama or people being upset, especially when children are involved.
Tuesday night I had a parent meeting to go over the details for the World Championships in St. Louis, yup you guessed it drama mama was there. She was asking the dumbest questions and all of our blood was boiling. After the meeting she was told that her and her child would not be able to attend STL due to circumstance on San Jose. She was beyond mad. She went out and was complaining for 20 minutes to some other parents about how awful I am and I need to leave the team and she wants my "job". My "job" is a kindergarten teacher I volunteer to help out!
Ok so that was my tangent. . . .I get a call when I get home from my sweet friend, who is on vacation on the east coast, just to see how the meeting went. We talked for an hour it is so nice to have girlfriends who will call you from their vacations just to see how a difficult situation turned out. The next day this amazing bottle of Opolo Mountain Zinfandel arrived at my house with the sweetest note. I am saving it until the three of us can drink it and watch the sunset. I love you girls and thanks for being there!! Love you
